Openstudio

Openstudio is both a name and a concept. As the identity for a design practice, it embraces complementary professional disciplines, from architecture and interiors to furniture and landscape. As a studio, it is an ‘open house’ where architects and engineers, painters and poets, sculptors and writers can come together to work on a project, or simply to talk and exchange ideas. The result is a working environment in which design solutions are considered from multiple perspectives, and in which open-mindedness is matched by intellectual rigour. This book allows a glimpse into Openstudio’s creative world. It offers snapshots from a portfolio that extends from houses and apartments to proposals for monuments and urban design. The content is structured around four themes – light, detail, texture and landscape – each of which informs this body of work.

David Jenkins is an architect who writes about architecture with insight and wit. He has written and edited numerous critically acclaimed books, including Foster 40 and The Strange Death of Architectural Criticism.
